Hi, i had my chest xray early today and the result says "there is a linear density in the left apical region along with faint reticulo hazy densities". and the impression says "fibrosis, left apical region. may i know what does it means because i'm worried. thanks!
Hello and welcome to HCM, The presence of fibrosis in left apical region of the lung fields is suggestive of overgrowth of connective tissue. The overgrowth of connective tissue occurs in response to some infectious or inflammatory condition. The most common cause of fibrosis lung is tuberculosis. Is there history of pulmonary tuberculosis in past. Fibrosis occurs as a sequelae of tubercular infection. Fibrosis is not a disease in itself but it is response to disease. If fibrosis involves a large area, it can lead to constriction while breathing.
Your findings suggests faint reticulo hazy densities in left apical region of lung. It may indicate fibrosis and it may be due to past infection like tuberculosis etc. Fibrosis is a healed stage and generally this stage doesn't require any treatment. You may need lordotic view of chest X-ray.This special view for apical regions helps in better assessment because apical area is covered by ribs, clavicle etc. Fibrosis in lungs may require treatment if it compromises pulmonary functions.
